Doner Kebab

A Group Exhibition of Graduates of the School of Artistic Gesture

Alatau Subway Station, Almaty

25 August, 2018 – 2 September, 2018

Curator: Dilda Ramazan

Artists: Aida Adilbekova, Dana Iskakova, Nazira Karimova, Leonid Khan, and Karina Krylova.

This project attempts to communicate a part of Almaty’s culture by studying the typical city phenomenon of donerki, snack bars that sell primarily doner kebabs. For this, the artists recreate an interior of a donerka, which could well exist in reality at one of Almaty subway stations. Doner Kebab is a total installation, in which the works are presented and performed in a variety of media: painting, video, silk-screen printing, and photography, among others. There are also elements of performance – the project participants personally cook and sell doners in the week’s duration of the installation.
